There is an English proverb that says, “First impressions are the most lasting.”  If first impressions are important to you, and a visitor were to come into your home today, what would their first impression be when they walked through the door?

Many of us feel that our home is a reflection of who we are. If you care about that, and you’re less than pleased when you enter your home, there are simple things you can do, within your budget, to improve what you see.

Transform with Color

For example, does your home have an entryway or foyer, or does it open immediately into your living room? If that first step into your home reveals a dark and dingy space, a fresh coat of paint on the walls in bright white, or a trendy contemporary color will create immediate eye appeal. The key is to evoke a message that says, “Come on in and welcome to my home.”

Welcoming with Charm

In fact, color plays a very important role in the overall feel of your home environment. Updating tired-looking walls in every room with fresh, clean colors that blend in with your décor will go a long way towards improving your living space. Not only will visitors to your home feel welcome, they’ll be charmed by the “wow, this place is awesome,” look that is accomplished just by the colors you choose for your walls.

If you’re not a do-it-yourselfer, and you need help with color choices, there are many online resources to help you. Or, for a more direct connection, go to your local paint store. If a renovation is on your horizon, check to see if the remodeling group you choose provides guidance on color design. Then, get inspired, have fun, and make it sensational.
