The colored leaves filling your garden often make you feel like you can sit back, relax and let autumn paint a beautiful landscape in your backyard.

But even if this beautiful season puts an amazing display on your home’s backyard, there is still  maintenance work to do around the house. Regular mowing and regular maintenance will help you keep your home looking sharp through the winter.

Take care of your home’s landscape. Here are eight tips to help you with landscaping through the autumn season:

1. Repaint your house.

Landscaping is not only about taking care of the living plants around your house. Your home’s look and feel plays an important role in the overall exterior design. If repainting your house is not an option for you at the moment, you can just retouch the existing paint or repair the house siding if necessary.

2. Keep your driveway clean.

Make sure you take care of the functional part of your home’s landscape as well. Sweep and power wash your driveway through the autumn months for a complete clean look.

Did you know: Landscaping is divided in two parts: soft landscaping (taking care of plants, trees and everything that is alive in your garden), and hard landscaping (taking care of the driveways, sidewalks and pavers placed around your house).

3. Add plant boxes.

This is a great way to add color to the exterior of your home: if you want to add greenery to your home, then adding plant boxes under the windows is the best idea.

4. Rake the leaves.

Yes, autumn leaves are beautiful and they create amazing landscapes, but they can also be dangerous. Excess fallen leaves on the sidewalk or on walkways can become slippery and cause accidents.

Tip: Rake the leaves on the sidewalk and on the pathway around your house to avoid unwanted accidents.

5. Keep your pool clean.

Summer is not the only season that requires pool maintenance, fall does too. Make sure you keep clean your pool weekly and you give it the same attention like you do during the summer season.

6. Fertilize the lawn.

Even if in the fall lawn grows slower compared to summer months, you still need to take care of it. By fertilizing your lawn and by cutting it during the fall season, you can prevent it from damage during the winter.

7. Clean your tools.

Before you put your tools in your gardening shed or in your garage, make sure they are clean and perfectly functional. This way, when spring comes and you have to get the tools out again, they will be ready for work.

8. Plant spring bulbs.

Check with your local gardening store to see what flower bulbs are best to plant now while the soil is still soft. Make sure you plant them deep in the ground in order to prevent them from freezing during winter. You will love your colorful garden when spring comes.
