Kitchen trends change every year. But sometimes you just want to go with the flow and create that color scheme from Pinterest. Sure, it looks amazing now, but for how long will it make the trend?

By the time you will have gotten used to it, chances are that the design will have become obsolete… new year, new trends right?

However, with a classic approach things are a bit different. As professionals, we know that remodeling a kitchen is a serious investment. You want to go through kitchen remodeling once, and hopefully your kitchen will be beautiful and practical for years to come. Therefore, you want to be sure that you make the right choices.

Our job today is to future-proof you from making kitchen remodeling mistakes that can waste your time and your money. Read on and discover the essential trends that will maintain your kitchen’s beauty and value many years from now.

1.Keep it white

The biggest advantage of a white color palette is that it never goes out of style. It is a versatile color that can adapt to your style changes, allowing you to play with colorful accessories, materials, patterns and details.

On top of that, it makes your kitchen look brighter (and larger, if your kitchen is small), and dirt has absolutely no place to hide in a white kitchen. Isn’t white all you ever wanted?

Then, of course, is the issue of keeping a white kitchen clean. The good news is that modern furniture materials are easy to clean, so you don’t have to worry about stains.

2. Choose hardwood flooring

It is in our genes as humans to love wood and there are a few good reasons why: it has personality, warmth and most importantly it makes our home feel inviting and cozy.
We like to compare hardwood flooring to a chameleon: it perfectly suits any type of design, from casual cottage to modern contemporary.

In addition to all the features mentioned above, hardwood flooring is great for open plan layouts because it flows beautifully through the entire house. It is also highly resistant, so you don’t have to worry about repairing it any time soon.

Tip: Solid hardwood can be refinished up to 12 times during its typical lifespan.

3. Thank heaven for shaker cabinets!

These simple yet attractive units are meant to look good in any setting. Shaker cabinets have a basic frame-and-panel design and can help reduce the crowded look in your kitchen thanks to their straight, clean lines.

In order to create a timeless look, make sure the kitchen cabinets are a part of the backdrop, not an unfortunate addition that you can not wait to get rid of.

4. Smart storage is the key

The saying, “you don’t know what you have until it’s gone” goes for kitchen storage space too.

The second most important thing in a kitchen design (besides looks) is functionality.
When designing your new kitchen, make sure you add lots of shelves and compartments, thus creating enough room for every knife, fork and frying pan.

Remember

Kitchen remodelings are probably the trickiest and most challenging types of home renovations. You have to take into account all the little details regarding looks and functionality, thus making sure your investment is fully worth it.
