Marble surfaces are beautiful and elegant. They bring a real touch of luxury and homeowners love them.

However, maintaining them can be a little tricky.

Fortunately, you came to the right place. Today we are going to take a look at the best ways to maintain marble surfaces.

By the end of the article, you will be a pro at cleaning your countertops – without much effort.

Etching – the main issue with marble surfaces

Before searching for solutions we need to understand the issues.

Marble surfaces are prone to etching and staining, especially in the kitchen. This is probably the biggest fear you might have about installing marble countertops.

Marble’s calcium carbonate makeup reacts with any acid. This means that any type of acidic liquid (lemon juice, alcohol) that is spilled on the marble surface creates permanent markings called etches.

So, it is because of etching that some people think marble is difficult to clean. But, where there’s a will, there’s a way.

Think of it as another simple task to add to your home maintenance list.

Caring for the beauty of marble surfaces is quite easy in the end.

Treat your marble surfaces right

Here are some tips to help you maintain the beauty of your countertops.

Seal your marble surfaces

Sealing protects against staining agents, yet it doesn’t make marble surfaces completely stain proof. The best advice we can give you is to talk to an expert who is able to determine which sealant works best for you.

Protect your marble surfaces

Vinegar, lemon juice or alcohol will etch marble. In case you spill one of these on your marble counters, don’t let them sit there too long. Wipe up spills right away.

Clean your marble surfaces

Avoid using abrasive cleaners. Instead, use a soft sponge or cloth to clean these beautiful surfaces. Being gentle is extremely important when cleaning marble surfaces.
