What should you be looking for when buying a lot of land in New Jersey for your dream home?

We’ve been working with homeowners for the past 14 years, studying the market shifts and seeing how requirements change over time. In this article, we’ve put together a list of the top five things you should consider when searching for the perfect location for your dream home in New Jersey.

Five things to consider when buying a lot of land in New Jersey

1. Size matters

Make sure you are buying a lot that fits the specs of your dream home. This means it should be big enough to accommodate your home plan and provide sufficient space for a nice driveway.

Keep in mind that one of the perks of living in a house (as opposed to a condo) is that you can enjoy a spacious backyard and have plenty of room for summer BBQ parties.

Maybe you plan on taking up gardening or landscaping.

The larger the lot, the higher your chances to be able to build an inground pool…

Does the lot of land you found meet these criteria?

2. Pick the right neighborhood

What community do you want to be a part of?

This is another important aspect you need to take into consideration when buying a lot in New Jersey. The suburbs give you that amazing joy of life if you choose the right location for you and your family.

Most neighborhoods have their own personality. Some are suited for younger families and some of them are home to mostly retirees. At the end of the day, it’s important that you get along with your neighbors. If you have children, it is nice to know they can establish friendships with the other kids who live nearby.

Look at the amenities available in the area, shops, public transport, schools and so on.

Pick a neighborhood that suits your lifestyle.

Useful advice: Visit at least two neighborhoods in the same suburban area before making a decision.

3. A cul-de-sac or not a cul-de-sac? That is the question

Pros of a cul-de-sac:

  • It’s extra quiet – there are not many cars going back and forth
  • It’s safer for children when playing outside
  • Due to the limited traffic, vandalism rates are lower
  • Your property will enjoy a unique look
  • Better communication with your neighbors

Note: A cul-de-sac is one of the many alternatives for dead end street or a street that has a circular end.

Nonetheless, a lot placed between two other similar lots is also an excellent choice. With a creative landscape design your home will look amazing, regardless if it’s a cul-de-sac or not.

4. Commute to work, proximity to schools and stores

As you look for lots, make sure to estimate how long it will take you to get to work. You don’t want to spend hours in the car every day, right?

Another important factor to take into consideration is the proximity to schools, parks and stores. How long will it take you to drop the kids to school? Is there a grocery store or a supermarket anywhere near?

5. A property with a view of New Jersey’s best

But what about the view? Is the view one of your priorities, or just a lucky shot?

It’s nice to know you can look out the window to a superb display of nature’s best landscapes, but usually these lots of land come at a price. Regardless, if the view is a priority, we can help you find the right lot of land that will compliment your home’s surroundings.
